What Inspired This?
- Mostly a combination of watching Esquire Network’s “Best Bars in America,” an old article I read about about a restaurant reviewer / journalist who got his start because he was bored and started writing about the restaurants he went to, and of course the Burrito Bracket.
Does This Mean You’re Trying to be a Writer Like That Journalist?
- Not really, just means I’m bored like he was. Plus I’ve been looking for something to blog about for awhile.
Are You Monitizing the Site At All?
- Not really, but if you click on something that links to Amazon it’s probably an affiliate link. Any other banner ads etc. you may see are from WordPress.com because of how I’m currently hosting the site. I’m not opposed to monitizing it, but that’s not why I’m doing this, this is a project I’m doing for myself and would enjoy even if no one reads it. That being said I am happy if anyone does read it. Also, I’m not opposed to free drinks at bars, if offered, so I guess that’s some form of monitization…
Whats Makes a Bar Better? How Do You Compare Different Types of Bars?
- I’ll let you know when I figure those out. As for picking the winners, it’s entirely subjective. The only way I’ve been able to counteract the subjectiveness is to make it a group vote rather than just my opinion. That being said, whoever is in the group for a given matchup is using their own criteria too, which could be anything.
Where Did You Get the Division Names From?
- Famous drunks throughout history.
Are the Divisions Based on Geography?
- No, I was too lazy for that. They were split up by their rank to evenly power match the bars.
How Did You Pick The Bars?
- I went through a bunch of best bar lists & the top 68 bars on Yelp! This produced about 170 bars. I then ranked them using Foursquare and took the top 68. However, if something was mentioned on at least 3 of these lists, it made the bracket regardless of it’s Foursquare score, but was power ranked using that score amongst the top 68.
